Liverpool will have to cope without talisman Luis Suarez for the majority of their pre-season after he was called up to Uruguay’s Olympic squad. Liverpool head for Boston next Monday for their pre-season tour of North America, but the 25-year-old will stay behind. He will miss games against MLS side Toronto in Canada on July 21, Roma at Fenway Park on July 25 and Tottenham in Baltimore on July 28. Uruguay are amongst the favourites to land gold but Liverpool will hope they do not make it to the August 11 final – just a week before their Premier League kick-off at West Bromwich Albion. Uruguay face United Arab Emirates on July 26, Senegal on July 29 and Team GB on August 1. Suarez is one of the three over-aged players selected alongside strike partner Edinson Cavani, of Napoli, and Palermo midfielder Egidio Arevalo Rios. Uruguay won Olympic football gold in 1924 and 1928, but have not taken part in the Games since then.
