Montpellier are set to hand midfielder Younes Belhanda a new contract at the club, in a bid to fend off interest from Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool. Younes Belhanda is reportedly wanted by Arsenal and Liverpool (Picture: EPA) Belhanda is currently rated as one of the most exciting talents in French football, having scored 12 goals in 28 matches for Montpellier last season, as they cruised to their first ever Ligue 1 title. The 22-year-old also enjoyed personal success, as he scooped the French Young Player of the Year award, and subsequently attracted interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, with their scouts an almost ever present by the end of the season.A creative, technical and rapid play-maker who can play wide, Belhanda has also been subject to intense interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan, but Montpellier are desperate to hang onto their star man, and will now offer him a vastly improved new contract. Arsenal completed the signing of Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud (Picture: AFP/GettyImages) Belhanda currently earns around £15,000-a-week on his current deal, but is expected to have tripled to £45,000-a-week, while large bonus and loyalty payments included. The decision comes after Montpellier chairman Louis Nicollin told supporters the club will do more to keep their top players, after leading goalscorer Olivier Giroud was allowed to join Arsenal last week, after the Gunners met his meger £12 million release clause.Belhanda though is expected to stay, with Montpellier hopeful he will extend his current contract beyond 2014, giving them security and also a key bargaining chip in their bid to keep one of the brightest talents in Ligue 1.
