Brad Friedel vows Spurs stars will back Andre Villas-Boas

Brad Friedel has promised new Tottenham manager Andre Villa-Boas he won’t face a players’ revolt at White Hart Lane. Support: Spurs players are behind AVB (Picture: Action Images) The Portuguese coach was in charge at Chelsea for just eight months before leaving Stamford Bridge amid suggestions he had fallen out with senior players. But United States international goalkeeper Friedel insists the current Spurs squad cannot wait to work with the new gaffer. Friedel banked a wealth of experience at Liverpool, Blackburn and Aston Villa before joining Spurs last summer and said: ‘I’ve been in football 21 years and one thing I’ve found is that there’s no right way or wrong way to be a manager. ‘It’s up to players to buy into what the new coach brings to the table and we will do that to the best of our abilities at Tottenham. ‘[AVB] has nothing to prove. He’s a very organised, professional manager who wants to win trophies and that’s exactly what you want to hear from your boss.’ The 41-year-old,  who was speaking at the launch of Spurs new five-year £50million kit deal with Under Armour, has bought into his coach’s philosophy and added: ‘I’m very impressed, he’s very confident and diligent.’ Friedel expects Spurs to scrap for the Premier League title this term and not merely settle for just a Champions League spot. ‘There won’t be a hangover from Chelsea taking our Champions League place,’ he said. ‘That’s in the past. We weren’t too far off last season and can fight for more than a top four finish.’
