METRO – Bradford boss Phil Parkinson hoping for famous cup success

Bradford claimed a famous victory over Arsenal en route to the Capital One Cup semi-final (Picture: Daily Mail) Bradford manager Phil Parkinson is hoping the Capital One Cup semi-final with Aston Villa will remind the nation the West Yorkshire club are on their way back up. The spotlight shone brightly on the Bantams during one of their finest hours last month when the 110-year-old League Two club knocked Arsenal out on penalties in the quarter-finals. It has been 13 years since Bradford escaped relegation on the final day of the 1999/2000 season to survive a second campaign in the Premier League after a 1-0 home victory over Liverpool. Phil Parkinson says his side have a point to prove in the competition (Picture: PA) The Bantams were relegated the following season and then followed a calamitous slide into administration and English football’s basement division. But Parkinson is hoping his side’s impressive League Cup run, that has included victories over Wigan and Watford before their famous win against Arsenal, can help kick-start a revival at Valley Parade and give the whole city something to cheer once again. ‘That’s really important for us,’ said the 45-year-old, whose team are three points off an automatic promotion spot despite losing to Barnet on Saturday. ‘It’s a big club, a sleeping giant and we’re trying to reawaken it. ‘The win against Arsenal certainly reminded everybody Bradford City is up and running, and starting to get going again. Another really good performance would be great for the city.’
