Papiss Cisse stunners sink Chelsea as Newcastle eye Champions League

Papiss Cisse scored a wonderful double as Newcastle bounced back from their drubbing at Wigan to claim an impressive win against Chelsea. Leaps and bounds: Papiss Cisse enjoys the first of his two cracking goals (Picture: PA) With one eye on Saturday’s FA Cup final against Liverpool, Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo made six changes to the side which thrashed QPR on Sunday, resting star men like Juan Mata and Frank Lampard. The hosts started brightly, though, with Raul Meireles blasting an early effort over the crossbar. But it was Newcastle who went in front after 19 minutes, with Cisse fed by Davide Santon, and the Senegal striker taking a touch before firing brilliantly beyond Petr Cech. Cisse (left) has been one of the buys of the season (Picture: Action Images) A minute before half-time, Hatem Ben Arfa’s low cross ran through to Demba Ba, who struck a fine effort against the Chelsea crossbar. After the break, the Blues failed to find a way back into the game, despite enjoying plenty of possession.Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote was carried off on a stretcher, after he seemed to be caught by an elbow from John Obi Mikel.Despite that blow, the points were sealed for the visitors in stoppage time when Cisse struck a contender for goal of the season, a fantastic swerving shot from distance that dipped over Cech and under the bar. Kenny Dalglish urges hot-headed Liverpool stars to keep their cool

David Kennedy Kenny Dalglish urges hot-headed Liverpool stars to keep their cool Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish urged his team to handle frustration better after a stormy defeat. Frustrated: Carroll clashes with his former Newcastle team-mates (Picture: PA) Goalkeeper Jose Reina was sent off nine minutes from time for an alleged headbutt on James Perch and £35million striker Andy Carroll, booked for diving in the first-half, stormed straight down the tunnel having aimed a volley of abuse at his manager when substituted two minutes earlier. A double for Papiss Cisse won an incident-packed game with Carroll – his predecessor as Newcastle’s No.9 – enduring a nightmare return to Tyneside while the red card for Reina means he will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Everton. Dalglish said: ‘We started well and looked pretty threatening but, obviously, it ended up with a lot of frustration and disappointment. ‘The frustration and disappointment resulted in the actions Pepe [Reina] took when he got a deserved red card. ‘Also when Andy came off and went up the tunnel, he was disappointed with the way the game was going, not necessarily for himself, but for the team, and the frustration took him up into the dressing room. ‘We don’t have a problem with people showing their desperation or disappointment or frustration, but we need to channel it better than we have done.’ Cisse opened the scoring with 19 minutes gone when he headed home Hatem Ben Arfa’s superb cross, and the Senegalese striker doubled the dose 14 minutes after the restart with a cool close-range finish despite a suspicion of offside.
