That stance has left Cottagers manager Martin Jol fuming and the club has sanctioned the American a week’s wages – £25,000 – for his petulance. ‘Clint was not involved over the last four weeks so he is not going to be in the squad,’ said Jol.‘He is not committed to the club – he wants to leave.‘If we get the right price for him we will sell him, if not he will stay. ‘I would like to keep him, but I think it’s impossible.’We won’t let Clint Dempsey go on the cheap that’s for sure. It’s a sad and almost embarrassing situation.’Dempsey was on the radar of many clubs this summer following another impressive season – but it seems the 29-year-old has his heart set on a move to Anfield. But Jol has confirmed that, despite the apparent need for Dempsey Liverpool, have failed to make an approach for the star. ‘There was never an offer – Clint himself told everyone he was going to Liverpool so we really thought there was a firm interest in him,’ added Jol. ‘But our people never had an offer on the table. If you show interest in a player you have to follow it up. They didn’t.’
