Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez’s move to Southampton is off and his agent has dismissed rumoured interest from Tottenham and Liverpool. Bologna are unhappy at the way Ramirez and his agent have conducted their business in public (Picture: Getty) Ramirez announced last week that he was close to securing a surprise move to the Premier League new boys, who had reportedly agreed terms on a £12 million deal with the Serie A club, but Bologna’s financial problems have led to the move being abandoned, and Southampton have now started looking at other targets.Ramirez’s agent Oscar Betancourt also dismissed talk that his player could instead be on his way to Liverpool or Tottenham. ‘The negotiations with Southampton have ended,’ he told calciomercatoweb.it. ‘I have spoken with the English club’s chairman, and they are looking at another target. ‘Bologna didn’t want to close the deal without the bank guarantees. The player was very happy with the offer received, but now he will probably remain at Bologna. ‘Tottenham is an option to be rejected at this time because they are a long way short of Bologna’s demands. Liverpool? They have never presented a concrete offer.’ Bologna have reacted angrily to the player and agent’s outspoken comments, with chairman Albano Guaraldi saying: ‘Ramirez is contracted to Bologna – and the club will decide upon his future, not the player himself. ‘Ramirez’s behaviour is totally unacceptable, giving open interviews like that without consulting us. Gaston cannot force my hand with two interviews. I am a serious person and I’ve already said it will take €20m to sell him. And I also told his agent.’ Check out our latest daily transfer gossip live blog

Bologna midfielder Gaston Ramirez looks set to face a tough decision on his future this summer after reports that Liverpool are the club to have lodged a €20million (£16.3m) bid for his services. Top prospect: Bologna’s Gaston Ramirez has been scouted several times this year alone (Picture: EPA) Ramirez’s agent Pablo Bentancur has been quoted by the Italian media as saying Bologna have received the offer from an un-named Premier League club, believed to be the Reds, and that a decision will be reached at the end of this season. The Uruguayan has been watched by English scouts on several occasions during the Serie A season, and, at 21, he is a highly rated prospect who club bosses are reluctant to release. However, his future remains unclear following the substantial bid from England – which is sure to turn heads. ‘Bologna have received an offer near to 20million euros from an important club in the Premier League,’ Bentancur told Italian TV station TMW.’Bologna will decide at the end of the season what they are going to do.’Ramirez’s profile fits with Kenny Dalglish’s long-standing recruitment philosophy of signing young, up-and-coming talent with a view to developing the team over a longer term. However, the 2011/12 season’s performances – particularly at Anfield where Liverpool have won only five times in the League all year – have seen some sections of the support cast doubts over this approach, demanding the Reds invest in proven talent to compete for the Champions League places.
