METRO – Liverpool boosted as Son Heung-Min stalls on new Hamburg contract

Liverpool have been boosted in the hunt for Son Heung-Min after the striker admitted he is stalling on plans to sign a new contract with Hamburg. Pressure: Son Heung-Min can’t decide on his future (Picture: EPA) The 20-year-old South Korean sensation, who moved to Hamburg from Dongbuk High School in 2008, has enjoyed a flying start to the season, scoring five goals in his last nine matches. It’s the sort of form that has attracted attention from Hamburg’s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, while French side Monaco are also believed to be monitoring the player. Yet Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is said to be leading the chase and has put Son on his January shopping list, with the club keen to bring in at least four new players when the transfer window re-opens. However, Hamburg have consistently rubbished talk that they will part with Son, insisting talks are progressing on an extension to his current contract, that is due to expire in 2014. But speaking for the first time about the transfer talk, the talented frontman says he is yet to decide whether he will renew with Hamburg, amid Liverpool’s growing interest. ‘I am as yet unaware whether I am to sign a new deal with Hamburg this winter,’ Son said. ‘Still, there is no doubt that I am very happy with my current situation at Hamburg. I like the club and I love the fans.’ Son fits Rodgers’ youth-orientated transfer philosophy, and given his £15million budget, the South Korean represents better value than £10million Theo Walcott or £8million Daniel Sturridge.   It’s thought a bid of around £6million would be enough to tempt Hamburg into doing business.

METRO – Demba Ba could face January move as Liverpool seek front-line options

Liverpool are pondering a £7million swoop for Newcastle striker Demba Ba in the January transfer window, as boss Brendan Rodgers desperately seeks to boost his forward options. Demba Ba has shown signs of discontent at Newcastle this season (Picture: Reuters) The Reds were already short of strikers after allowing Andy Carroll to join West Ham on a season-long loan and failing to bring in a replacement and the situation worsened this week when summer signing Fabio Borini broke his foot while training with the Italian squad. Rodgers was originally tracking Hamburg youngster Son Heung-Min, but the Merseyside club have been told he is not for sale, leaving them to focus their attentions fully on Newcastle’s Ba. It has already emerged the Senegal international has a £7million buy-out clause in his contract which comes into effect in January, but it remains uncertain whether Liverpool could match his high wage demands. A move away from the north-east could appeal to Ba as he has already suffered run-ins with boss Alan Pardew this season after voicing his discontent at starting some matches as a substitute, while Pardew was unimpressed at the striker’s demands for an inflated wage package. Ba is currently the Premier League’s leading goalscorer this campaign, having netted six times, with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez joint-second with five to his name.

German side Hamburg look set to move for Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt after manager Thorsten Fink hinted he was interested in signing the forward. Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt looks set to leave Anfield this summer (Picture: AFP/Getty Images) The Dutchman’s future has been the subject of intense speculation with the 31-year-old set to enter the final year of his contract next season. And now it looks like Hamburg could attempt to secure Kuyt’s services this summer after Fink described the No.18 as a ‘class’ player.’He has class, and he is also a fighter,’ Fink told German sports magazine Kicker.’There is nothing more that needs to be said about the quality of this player.’Whether this is something we feel we want to commit to, we will see,’ he concluded.Kuyt, who has made over 200 appearances for the Reds, has seen his playing time limited under manager Kenny Dalglish this term having started just 10 Premier League games.Fink’s views echo that of the club’s technical director and former Tottenham man Frank Arnesen who told German newspaper Bild last month: ‘A player like Kuyt, who is still in good shape, can add something to any team. ‘He is a real team-player with an excellent attitude.’However his agent admitted there is no shortage of interest for the 2010 World Cup finalist, saying: ‘There have not been any talks with Arnesen or with someone else from HSV.’Would Kuyt be interested in a move to the Bundesliga? I can’t say anything about that. A lot of clubs have made enquiries, but there’s nothing concrete for now.’Kuyt has spent six years on Merseyside having been signed by former Reds boss Rafael Benitez for £9 million from Feyenord in 2006.Roma and Fiorentina have also been mooted as possible destinations for the blonde-haired forward.
