Holtby On The Reds Radar?

New England Sports Ventures (NESV) may only have one hand on the ownership of Liverpool Football Club but in many areas, it seems that the media are already happy to start spending that investment on players, before it has even been sanctioned by the High Court.

With the Premier League yesterday confirming that should the High Court decision be in the favour of Martin Broughton, they are happy with the credentials of NESV in line with the criteria laid out in their Owners & Directors Test, rising speculation is that Lewis Holtby could be a Reds target in the very near future.

The Mainz winger, currently on loan from Schalke, has been in sensational form so far this season, providing 6 Bundesliga assists and also finding the net twice, form that has helped his side to the top of the league with seven straight wins and a 3pt advantage over Dortmund.

Holtby is an Everton fan in the footsteps of his father Chris, a English former soldier from Liverpool, who was stationed at the Rheindahlen RAF base in Mönchengladbach when Lewis was born, his mother is German. With Lewis representing Germany at U18, U19, U20 & U21 levels so far but not yet the senior side, a debate has raged in some quarters in recent weeks following his fine form, that England should try and capitalise on his parentage themselves for full international honours.

Liverpool’s Danish scout Jakob Friis-Hansen has already hinted that the club are looking to bring in around four new players in the January transfer window, whether his directives between now and then out in Germany, cover reporting back on the starlet with Merseyside connections remains to be seen. A very talented young player with an £8m price tag, flair and confidence, someone that could certainly provide some different options at Anfield.
