METRO – Carlton Cole equalises for West Ham against Chelsea

Carlton Cole scored a headed equaliser for West Ham to make the score 1-1 after Juan Mata had given Chelsea a first half lead. Carlton Cole equalised for West Ham (Picture: Getty) Mata finished superbly after Victor Moses fed the ball through to Torres on the right and the striker then cut the ball back to him.The little Spaniard missed a great chance to double the lead for the Blues in the 40th minute after good work from Moses on the left. The former Wigan player turned on the ball fooling two West Ham defenders but the Spanish midfielder was unable to finish the cut-back. Peter Cech threatened to ruin a good first period for the visitors when he handled the ball outside the area on the stroke of half-time. The Blues stopper escaped with only a yellow card.He also managed to redeem himself after he saved a header, which had resulted from the free-kick he had given away. Juan Mata celebrates after scoring his Chelsea’s goal against West Ham (Picture: Reuters) Chelsea interim coach Rafa Benitez had dropped another of his creative players for the second game in a row after opting to start with Victor Moses alongside Juan Mata and Eden Hazard instead of Oscar at West Ham.Benitez was criticised after he left Mata out of the team that drew 0-0 with Fulham in midweek but he is unlikely to receive the same level of disapproval for dropping the Brazilian, who is seen as less influential. The Spanish manager is already under pressure following consecutive goalless draws at home against Manchester City and the Cottagers, but has decided to stick with an otherwise familiar line-up. John Obi Mikel returned in place of Oriel Romeu and Gary Cahill deputised for the suspended David Luiz in the two other changes to his team.West Ham were without on-loan striker Andy Carroll, with the Liverpool man facing a lengthy six- to eight-week spell on the sidelines through injury. In his absence, former Chelsea striker Carlton Cole lead the line for the Hammers. METRO – Chelsea rest Juan Mata and Oscar for away trip to West Bromwich Albion

Arsenal ‘keen on Victor Moses as Theo Walcott replacement’

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make a move for Wigan’s Victor Moses, as uncertainty about Theo Walcott’s future grows.Walcott has just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and talks about an extension have stalled. Victor Moses is a transfer target for Arsenal and Chelsea (PA) Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is apparently now ready to sell, as long as he can find the right replacement. The man he wants is Wigan’s Nigerian playmaker Moses, reports the Daily Star Sunday. The 21-year-old has been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool in recent weeks, after making it clear he has no intention of signing a new contract at the DW Stadium.Latics chairman Dave Whelan has tried to deter interest from rival Premier League clubs by placing a £12million price tag on the former Crystal Palace trainee.Chelsea appear unwilling to meet that valuation, but Arsenal could afford it if they are able to offload Walcott. The Blues are among the clubs interested in Walcott, but any move for the 23-year-old will depend on how much they have to spend to land one of their striker targets. Manchester City are also keen, but the player may decide to see out his contract and leave Arsenal on a free transfer next summer.

Victor Moses’ agent vows to force Chelsea transfer from Wigan

Victor Moses’s agent has angered Wigan officials once again by admitting he’ll do everything in his power to help his client join Chelsea this summer. Desperate to leave: Victor Moses (Picture: PA) The Latics have already snubbed Chelsea’s opening offer of £4 million for Moses, but expect the Blues to return to the negotiating table next week to try and find a compromise. Moses, who is also a long-term target for Liverpool, has told Wigan chairman Dave Whelan he is desperate to quit the DW Stadium during the summer transfer window, but the Latics supremo has rubbished the talk and blames the player’s agent for stirring the situation. ‘The agents are just coining in money off the backs of these lads. It makes you wonder whether it’s all worth it,’ Whelan told the Daily Mirror. However, Moses’ representative Tony Finnigan has since hit back, suggesting that Wigan were lucky to have signed the former Crystal Palace star in the first place. ‘I know how these things work, but I’m not getting involved in a slanging match,’ Finnigan stressed. ‘All I will say is, how did Victor end up at Wigan, when he could have gone to Manchester City? Who took him to Wigan?’ The comments are said to have incensed Whelan, but Finnigan has now gone one step further, revealing this weekend that he will now do everything he can to help Moses out of Wigan. ‘Provding Wigan can agree a fee with Chelsea, I will do all I can to make the move happen for Victor,’ he added. Wigan are demanding up to £12 million for Moses, while Chelsea are said to value him at closer to £8 million, but could throw in the season-long loan of talented play-maker Josh McEachran to help smooth out a deal.

Wigan accuse Chelsea of ‘taking the mickey’ as Victor Moses bid rejected

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has accused Chelsea of ‘taking the mickey’ after the European champions had a transfer bid turned down by the Latics for Victor Moses. Chelsea are expected top make another bid for Wigan’s Victor Moses (L) (Ian Hodgson) The former Crystal Palace man is believed to be on the wanted list at Stamford Bridge and would be the first signing made by Roberto Di Matteo since he became permanent manager last week. According to Sky Sports News, Moses’ impressive performances at the DW Stadium last season, which helped keep Wigan in the top flight, have alerted Chelsea to his potential. ‘Chelsea would need to get realistic before we would even listen to them,’ Whelan told ESPN. ‘They made a bid at 6pm last night and we turned it down flat. ‘Roberto Martinez has brought this player on and he needs at least another year with Roberto to become a top player. ‘We have offered him a new contract but it seems the agent, more than the player, wants to move him on, at least that is the impression we are getting. ‘It cannot be for the player’s good. Victor Moses needs another year or two before moving to a club like Chelsea. ‘He needs games and he won’t be first choice at Chelsea, I wouldn’t have thought. ‘We don’t need to sell him with 12 months to go on his contract because he is under 24 so wouldn’t be going on a free transfer. ‘Ideally we would like him to sign a new contract, or a club like Chelsea would have to be realistic. At the moment, they are taking the Mickey with the bid they’ve made.’ Other clubs rumoured to be interested in Moses include Liverpool, Arsenal, QPR and Newcastle. His contractual situation, as well as his high value, could mean that Latics chairman Dave Whelan may be forced to reconsider his stance should an improved offer come in. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez will be keen to keep hold of one of his star players but with Chelsea’s vast resources, an improved offer may not be too far away.It is believed that Blues’ chairman Roman Abramovich is keen to adopt a more attacking philosophy for the coming season, of which Moses is seen as a part of.
