TALKSPORT – Former Liverpool defender will not join Benfica, claim reports

Former Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua will not be returning to Portugal to join Benfica, reports A Bola. The 24-year-old, who ended his four-year spell at Anfield in 2011 when he joined Sporting Lisbon, successfully rebuilt his career in the Portuguese capital. His good form for Sporting persuaded Atletico Madrid to part with £3m for his services during the last transfer window but he is yet to make an appearance for the Europa League holders.

METRO – Ricky Van Wolfswinkel eyed by Tottenham for January transfer

Tottenham are said to be considering a move for striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel as he continues to drag his feet over signing a new deal at Sporting Lisbon.Van Wolfswinkel, who joined Sporting from Dutch side Utrecht in June 2011, has scored 29 goals in 53 matches since moving to Portugal, and has consistently been linked with a move to the Premier League. Ricky Van Wolfswinkel (below) has been linked with a move to Tottenham (Picture: Getty) Arsenal, Liverpool and Sunderland have all been mentioned as possible destinations for the 23-year-old, but he dismissed speculation during the summer, by revealing that he is in negotiations with Sporting over a new three-year-deal at the Jose Alvalade stadium. However, those talks have since dragged and Van Wolfswinkel is now willing to consider other options, unless the club meet his wage demands by the new year. According to Portuguese newspaper Abola, Van Wolfswinkel’s agent Louis Laros will sit down with Sporting president Godinho Lopes next week in a bid to find an agreement, and Laros is ready to demand a transfer in the January window if a compromise can’t be reached. It’s news that will suit Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, who twice tried to sign Van Wolfswinkel while at former club Porto, and would be interested in bringing him to White Hart Lane if the price is right. Sporting still believe they can keep the all-action centre forward, but an offer in the region of £8million would be difficult to turn down.

METRO – Liverpool look to Sporting Lisbon’s Jeffren to solve striker situation

Liverpool are set to solve their forward problems with a move for Sporting Lisbon star Jeffren, according to reports in Portugal. Jeffren is the latest striker to be linked with a move to Liverpool (Picture: Getty) Brendan Rodgers has been left with just one forward option in Luis Suarez after summer signing Fabio Borini broke his foot in the early part of last month and the Reds failed to bring in a replacement for the outgoing Andy Carroll. The Merseysiders have been linked with moves for several top names when the transfer window reopens in January, but it looks as though their preferred option will be Jeffren according to Portuguese newspaper Record. The 24-year-old, who joined Sporting Lisbon in August 2011 from Barcelona and is thought to have already been the subject of an approach from Liverpool, could initially join the club on a loan deal, with an option to buy at a later date. Jeffren has scored just once in seven appearances for Sporting this season in their 2-1 defeat to Vitoria Setubal, with the club currently sitting 10th in the Primeira Liga.
