METRO – Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra should lead Anfield tributes, says Fowler

Anfield legend Robbie Fowler has suggested Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra should put aside their personal differences by laying floral tributes before the match between Liverpool and Manchester United on Sunday. Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra were involved in a race row last season (Picture: EPA) Sunday’s clash will be the first game at Liverpool’s ground since the report from the Hillsborough Independent Panel exonerated the fans involved in the 1989 disaster. Fowler said the match would also be an opportunity to pay tribute to the Munich air disaster of 1958 in which eight Manchester United players and three club staff died. ‘It would be nice for Luis Suarez to put some flowers at the United end regarding Munich, and for Patrice Evra to do so at the Kop,’ Fowler told the BBC. ‘The two clubs do have a rivalry, but some things are far more important than football and this is one of them.’ Patrice Evra reacts angrily after being snubbed by Luis Suarez (Picture: Sky Sports) Suarez was suspended for eight matches last season after being found guilty of racially abusing Evra. On his first start after the suspension, the Uruguayan striker refused to shake the United defender’s hand before Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford – but clubs are confident they will respect the pre-match ceremony on Sunday. The fierce rivalry between the teams has seen United fans taunt their Merseyside counterparts with warped songs about Hillsborough, while Reds fans have also been guilty of chants about the Munich air disaster. Both clubs and several fan groups have called for an end to the chants. Robbie Fowler (right) scored 183 goals for Liverpool in two spells (Picture: AP)
